Tidings Of Great Joy

I would like to extend my most heartfelt congratulations to Ben and Faith Worley on the birth of Benjamin West Worley earlier this evening...
as well as a hearty welcome to Little Ben, himself.

For those unfamiliar, the proud father is a regular commenter here. You know him as W.B. Picklesworth.

May the good Lord continue to rain His blessings upon all three of you.

True story: the young Tiger Lilly (little Ben's auntie) and her kindergarten class read about Benjamin West and his cat. The summer after that we were visiting Connor Prairie Farm near Indianapolis. It's a historical education site that operates completely as a farm from - I believe - the 1830s. All the staff there have to stay in character when interacting with each other and with visitors.

In the tailor shop, the tailor was a bespectacled older gentleman who used a lot of "thees" and "thous" in his speech. TL asked him why he talked like that. He said, "Because I am a Quaker. Does thou know what a Quaker is?"

"Oh, yes!" replied TL. "Benjamin West was a Quaker and he wanted to be a painter but his parents didn't think it was godly."

The tailor, a little taken aback, said, "And does that show thee how important it is to listen to the still, small voice inside thee?"

TL knitted her brows and gave him a puzzled look. "Do you mean, GOD?" she said, emphasizing the last word.

The tailor laughed and shook his head. "Thou art a caution," he said.

Thank you Gino. It hasn't sunk in yet, but it's amazing.

Gino,

I had the honor of holding "Little" Ben last Saturday night for about a half hour. He now weighs in at around ten pounds so he is not all that little. He has a ton of hair and sideburns! Faith says that he is a great baby.
