I've got an idea to help fight Global Warming and cure the economy.

How about we just give $100,000 to anybody who wants to trade their larger, less energy efficient house for a smaller, more efficient house?
After the deal is made, the previous home will be bulldozed so nobody else can pollute with it again.

Think of the boost to the housing market and construction trades. This will pull us out of the recession within about 32 minutes, and save the planet at the same time.

Being a big fan (and occupant of) smaller, more efficient housing, I like this idea. However, I imagine the municipalities that would take the hit on property taxes (presumably the new assessed value would be considerably lower, even in California) might not like getting that particular ox gored...

I think it would be cheaper to spend just $20,000 on the people who believe the global warming hoax and give them the good drugs so they die off from not eating. Win-win!

We solve many problems with this solution: overpopulation is eased; we would tax the drug sales and help the economy; carbon footprint of a dead person is *really* low; we have less people to worry about for social security; and best of all, we'll vote all the losers out of office!

You need to think bigger, Gino. I'd recommend wiping out entire municipalities. Think of the cost savings if we got rid of some of these troublesome places:

Addison, Illinois
Perth Amboy, New Jersey
Natick, Massachusetts
Parma, Ohio
Romulus, Michigan
Elm Grove, Wisconsin
New Brighton, Minnesota
Whittier, California
Pleasant Hill, California
Mesquite, Texas

So many options!

Oh, and Brian: do a Google search on the words "Bastiat" and "broken windows" and see what comes up.

What Mr. D. says. Destroying wealth to achieve wealth? Didn't Mr. Orwell have something to say about such abuses of language?

Sorry if I failed to make my ironic Keynesianism more clear...though it is true that I live in a small house (more or less) by choice, I have no interest in imposing that on anyone else.

brian, you're right. its the new paradigm.

it'll work. we'll get the best harvard has to offer to put this plan into action.

i know, it may seem as strange thinking to us regular folks ('cept for me,cause i'm a new convert to the better thinking of my betters).

i'm just glad the smart people won the election and get to run things now.

Be sure to check out my nee 'Stash for Shacks' Blog. I honestly had this Idea before ever reading yours. I like your Idea too, in an demented sort of way.
