Out With The Old, In With The Bad

Some bad news:
It's being reported that one of my favorite feed lots in Orange County is closing, Chris' & Pitt's.
I was hitting that place every other week for years. Good food in a casual setting (think coffee shop casual) at an affordable price, and you couldn't beat the prime rib.
Come to think... they might be part of the reason why I had those 40 extra pounds I'd lost a while back.

Their loss is a tragedy. Take my word for it.

In it's place? Brace yourself... What's being touted as the McDonalds of the Philippines.
Can you believe it? Closing a fine American eatery like Chris' & Pitt's and replacing it with an enthnic joke sporting a silly name?

Yeah, it's like The OC really needs another place that serves rice in a bowl topped with mystery meat. Besides, I've seen what Filipinos eat, and it's not pretty.
Not at all.

If that's the same "McDonald's of the PI" that they had on Subic Bay, it's actually rather good food. Think high quality take-out Chinese, sort of. Not a lot of rice, heavy on the sea food, about half the stuff breaded. Lots of noodles and sauces.

Sorry to hear a place with good prime rib is going, though.

My take here is that while Jollibee may be good food, LA has plenty of good Asian restaurants, and not enough places that serve good "American" fare. I remember getting a "Reuben" sandwich at an eatery there, and wondering since when bean sprouts go on one.

Just got this link in an email from my mom:
Two Californias.

Bet it's a pain to try to keep a BBQ house open when you don't have family to call on to fill a lot of positions.
(I don't know about the other groups, but I do know that the Filipino families I'm familiar with are very proud of the whole keep-it-in-the-family thing on a big scale. Doesn't work so well if you don't have siblings in the area and only had two kids.)

Our local Hooters, which had exceptional service, a top notch chef and charming eye candy was closed down due to some idiotic adult business zoning loophole. Now in in the place of Loki and Vas's bad day hangout, sits a White Castle.

I feel your pain. I really do.

Are you seeking out professional help? Don't be embarrassed. Sometimes we just need someone to talk to. Someone who won't judge us for our inconsolable rage and feelings of abandonment.
