Nothing quite like using your First Amendment rights to justify curtailing somebody else's First Amendment rights.
But it's the patriotic songs, (you know, the ones that glorify freedom and liberty?) that are the nicest touch.

Things that make you go hmmmm.
Are you referring to anything in particular?
mosque protests, and those who attend them.
i get a chuckle whenever i hear somebody jewish claim muslims just want to build a mosque to celebrate their victory, as if the jews hadnt thought of that for israel yet.
i hope i never live to see the day when the dome of the rock is torn down to rebuild the temple.
well, ok, maybe in a wicked sense, i kinda do...
Isn't that supposed to be when Jesus comes back (hence the fundamentalist/millennial Christian obsession with Israel?)
yeah, thats it. but they got that part wrong. Jesus is coming back with or without that temple.
Funny enough, I know that particular brand of eschatology from a Tom Robbins novel, not from ~18 years or so of Baptist Sunday School.
18 yrs???
wow.
you must be a major disappointment to your family.
I'm a mixed bag for them, I'm sure.
Ironically, IIRC, the dome of the rock was built there because it was on the temple-- it's a symbolic thing. Bigger, taller, on your rubble, etc. (they put a mosque on those ancient statues, yet?)
Brian--from what I understand, that particular brand of eschatology was created pretty recently and took off as a result of those novels ... mainline denominations wouldn't have taught it (and many mainline denominations found a sudden need to create formal theological rejections of it when the novels, movies, fan fiction, etc. came out).
So you might have been paying attention in bible school after all ;).
People get all up in my face about conspiracy theories, but sometimes they are just sitting there staring you in the face ... end-times thinking is pretty clearly keeping alllllll this Middle-Eastern/religions of Abraham crap at a high boil. Sure would be nice if Christians at least would take the teaching seriously, "The Kingdom of God is at hand" (ie, HERE NOW) and try to live in the moment and for the moment, as if it mattered absolutely--because it does.
: P.
