Something is being left unsaid, besides the usual comments I'm currently hearing, now that Sarah Palin has joined Fox News as a political/policy commentator/analyst.
It looks to me that she is taking a page from Ronald Reagan playbook. Reagan built his bonafides as a bonafide through a series of speeches and commentaries, saying the right things, in the right ways, before he ran for his first office (Governor of CA).
It was hard to write him off as 'just an actor', though the left tried, after everybody had heard what he had to say.
Sarah just may end up becoming a serious, and knowledgeable, political commentator.
I'm not so sure how she's going to pull this off sticking to the neo-con ideology, but she seems to have a knack for touching the populist nerve in a certain segment of the electorate.
I still don't think her 'time' is near, but clearly, it's not midnight yet either, so she's gonna be a around a while.
I just hope she doesn't destroy my fantasies by going all "Malkin" on us.

Thanks. I needed something to make me laugh this morning.
If Sarah Palin wasn't unusually attractive for a politician, no one would say such things about her. She is otherwise utterly unremarkable.
Reagan also had a radio show like Paul Harvey's between his governorship and his successful run for President in which he honed his ability to communicate complex ideas to the masses.
And Mrs. Palin as a serious and knowledgeable political commentator? Well, she's certainly at least average among politicians--is any serious person going to claim she's worse than, say, Mr. "57 States" or Biden?
Palin certainly does get A LOT of attention for being so darned "utterly unremarkable".
...
Reagan certainly honed his skills and put forth his conservative ideology to the people.
...
BB, how dare you question the IQ of Biden!!!
"When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed. He said, 'look, here's what happened.'" -- Sen. Joe Biden, in an interview with CBS News.
"...she's certainly at least average among politicians"
My point, exactly. OK, I wouldn't say "at least".
"Palin certainly does get A LOT of attention for being so darned "utterly unremarkable"."
Absolutely. And the reason is the demonstrated human tendency to project positive attributes onto people with whom they would like to have sex.
"Absolutely."
Brian, just because YOU want it to be does not make it so.
How you can call a person breaking into politics and rattled up the corrupt good ol' boys way out in remote oil rich Alaska as "utterly unremarkable" only means that you are not quite in-touch with reality. I have no patience for misogyny in politics or otherwise.
What K-Rod says. Rooting out a good old boys network and getting some of them put in prison is something Dear Leader would LOVE to have on his resume. Sorry, Brian & others, Palin's got a resume most politicians--including the majority of Congress and those in the White House--would love to have.
Or, at least would if they weren't spending all their time making and taking political bribes to get votes in Congress.
she's got moxie, and integrity.
but those are not necessarily the traits of a successful politician.
and in her case, have actually worked against her.
in DC, she would be eaten alive.
(sigh)
This is the point in the conversation where I point out that all I said about Ms. Palin is that she's nothing special. I'm nothing special. Odds are, neither are you.
It's her inexplicable fanbase that I'm criticizing here. And you're kind of making my argument for me, on that front.
hey, my fandom is purely one dimensional.
Everything that makes me vomit about Palin ASIDE...
I would like to know exactly how abandoning one's government service job in order to become rich as a commentator/author/whateverelse she has up her sleeve demonstrates the LEAST bit of integrity. Really - explain that to me.
And the only supposed "moxie" anyone could attribute to her personality was won soley by confidence in her physical appearance.
or she could have become rich through her elected office, i guess. which is the standard practice.
Amanda, she's being nice enough not to talk about it in public, but one major reason that she had to resign is that Alaska law allows innumerable ethics investigations which had taken about half a million out of her assets.
To draw a picture about the ethics of her accusers, none of the accusations have stuck.
Now I don't like her resignation as governor any more than you do, really, but when the law allows political opponents to sue people into oblivion, what other choice does a politician of modest means have?
(yet another demonstration for the need for a "loser pays legal bills of winner" rule in lawsuits)
She's gonna be a great political contributer. She's attractive, and quick witted.
I don't think she's presidential material though. She makes too many people nervous. in 6 years she'd likely run against an aging Hilary and it could go either way pending the political climate.
What I'm waiting for is a conservative candidate who can communicate and lead. I don't see him or her out there right now. I like Rick Green, former Rep from Texas and current president of Wallbuilders. But I have no idea if he's interested in running.
Are there any good conservative candidates out there?
Brian, YOU are special, don't cut yourself short.
Amanda, her moxie can be attributed to her confidence in conservative policy not because she is a MILF, or GILF for that matter. ;^)
Amanda, BB, I wasn't a fan of the piles of lawsuits and her resignation. I place some blame on the judges that didn't see the pattern and start leveling contempt charges against some of the plaintiffs. I agree we need a loser pays reasonable costs rule.
As for the oath of office...
She didn't complete her term as governor and Obama didn't fulfill his term as Senator. FACT.
Would anyone like to talk about her clothes?
Does she have as many personal assistants as MObama?
Gino, people don't become rich through government service jobs. For example, there was an editorial about Biden last year comparing his wealth to that of other senators, which outlined how much less money he has, because he got involved in government so early in his life.
If you want to say that wealth is relative, fine, but then look at how much the talking heads at Fox are making. :)
Take a look at Wellstone! and how little money he had and how that all change AFTER he was elected. Cha Ching!
*cue music from The Jeffersons*
amanda: much is under the radar. biden hasnt accumulated as much because he somewhat more honest the standard politician.
hastert, on the other, made millions...
and seems to avoid the scrutiny he should recieve.
hastert bought some farmland in Nowhere,IL, and then inserted a highwy to nowhere into an approprations bill ot two.
this is how its done.
And what about Harry Reid and his corrupt real estate deals.
Heck, Wellstone! even screwed his own workers.
gino, you need to buy a lookalike doll already and spare the rest of us for Christ's sake.
but its good fodder. why would a blog give that up?
The traditional Fox fox doesn't have much fox appeal to me, to be honest. Sarah Palin would be an improvement if she would actually engage issues intelligently. I don't like jumping on the putting-down-Palin bandwagon, as a lot of it seems to me unfair and indecent--I really don't know why liberals or conservatives care so much. Her intellect seems to me that of an average politician.
I wish the best for her and Palin family, but to the question you're really asking here, "No, I would not *totally* hit that!"
Keep this between you and me, Gino, but I have a bit of a glasses-fetish. But that's just the superficial manifestation of my intellectual-fetish, so I'll pass on Palin.
RW, were you hoping for a picture of Britt Hume? (Not that there is anything wrong with that, I mean, if that's what you like...)
tully, I see your glasses angle.
The fact that she goes hunting/fishing is another big turn-on for outdoors-men! ;^)
